The long trip to Saint Lucia
As we had done for years, we organised our holiday in the British Virgin Islands. The flight and villa on Virgin Gorda were booked. However, Hurricane Irma struck the islands on 6 September causing significant damage. To avoid losing the booked flight we were compelled to find an alternative solution.
We were fortunate to escape to St Lucia in the West Indies after the devastating hurricane in the BVI and enjoyed a wonderful time exploring the island. From its beautiful beaches to its lush rainforests St Lucia offers a wealth of attractions; it was an unforgettable experience. The Windward Island Saint Lucia, is a part of the southern Islands of the Lesser Antilles, within the West Indies. Saint Lucia lie south of the Leeward Islands in the eastern Caribbean Sea. The climate is tropical. The dry season on Saint Lucia is from beginning December to end of May. The temperatures do not fluctuate much between summer and winter.
As usual, we flew from Zürich to Boston to spend the night there. The journey continued early the following morning from Boston to Newark, New Jersey. From there, a connecting flight to Hewanorra International Airport on Saint Lucia was scheduled.
Because of a plane that went off the runway at Hewanorra International Airport, we could only fly away from Newark Airport in the evening. Our flight was delayed again and again. Result, instead of being in St. Lucia in the evening, it was 2am the following morning. The people there are used to being late and waiting for us, even the taxi drove to Marigot Bay in the middle of the night.
